Rough Night

Li’l E’s first frustration was that she hurt her foot,
then she was out of clean jammies.
Aunt Den kissed the ouchie.
Daddy said she could search my dresser. This is the backup plan for when I am delinquent on my laundry obligations.
When I got home, she was sporting my t-shirt that says “Help, I’m talking and I can’t shut up!”, which was funny in the 90s because of the life alert commercials I guess.

I suggested a bath.
“Naw”…she was “still hungry” and frowned when Daddy suggested she finish the dinner she still had downstairs. I don’t think she touched it.
Two Disney channel shows passed and I said it was bed time.
She said she needed a bath.
I told her it was too late and she told me her feet were to dirty to get in to bed with, plus she has that cut…
The visual aid she provided proved both that she did in fact need a bath, and also that she is pretty flexible.
I told her to hand me her shirt, get in fast, not to get her hair wet because…
She interrupted to ask why she could not get her hair wet.
I lectured first on interrupting, told her that if she had let me finish, I was about to tell her why.
Then told her it was too late to dry it and I did not want her to sleep with it wet.
I pulled last nights wet rag out of the tub and dropped it on the floor and she got in.
Five minutes later she squealed and when I got in to the bathroom, the tears were streaming down her cheeks. “I accidentally got my hair wet” she told me hysterically.

sigh

Firmly but calmly I lectured on responsibility, following directions, and not dawdling and causing problems right before bed.
I wrapped her in her towel and pulled her close to me. I rocked her in my arms and said, “My little girl.” She sobbed. She is emotional when tired.

I told her to get dressed.
There was one problem:
Mommy was not paying attention to what she was doing and had dropped the last clean night shirt on the floor, and then, dropped last night’s dripping wet cloth on top of the shirt.

She didn’t lecture, she didn’t even sigh at me.
Li’l E’s biggest problem tonight?
Her mother is an idiot.
