Pinocchio

"A boy who won't be good, might just as well be made of wood." –The Blue Fairy

Yes child, you are just a puppet, but atleast you can walk, and atleast you can talk, so why do you complain about not being a “real” boy?

Shouldn’t you just thank that fairy because you can speak? Keep your painted smile because you can learn, and you can laugh, and you feel the feelings of a real boy.
You point to Gepetto and say it's for him.

But, you do not sit like stone on the shelf like the other dolls; he loves you better than all rest. Why are you so discontent?

You say some silly thing, “It is because I want to call him Father, and hear him call me Son.”

Just words? But you can say those when he takes you down from the shelf to dance and play. Last night you two played an Injun brave and his captive, the night before you were a horse and rider, and the one before that you were two adventure seekers on a mountain climb! See, all things can be pretended, so tonight be father and son.

Your sad sigh reminds me his embrace would mean better if it were not pretend.

What heart, even made of wood, would not prefer to be tucked into a bed each night over being shelved?
