Postsecret.blogspot.com Speaks to Me

I am not really sure if you are allowed to borrow these, but since I am citing them and not getting any money (unless any one really wants to send me money, you can totally do that), and since I have like 10 readers and none of you would have a clue how to report me any way (that's not a challenge people) so I am stealing two pictures from today's Post Secret.

People tell their little secrets on the fronts of post cards with a picture on the front (usually one they made) and they are usually either pretty funny, pretty disturbing or just kind of universal.

I would never send any thing in to that site, primarily because I don't even have enough ambition to send on a postage -not -required chain letter. I got one the other day and it said "no postage required" and it came to me postage free; I was amazed! But getting it in the envelope and writing the tag was just too much, and I flaked. So I don't know how I would ever get up the motivation to actually make a post card and get it sent off. Anyway, I don't have a lot of secrets I want the whole world to know.

Oh wait wait. There is one little one. If I were to send one in, this would be it:

"When ever I see a guy going kinda slow on a motorcycle, I want to tap him gently with my car and see if I can knock him over. " Tell me I am not the only one thinking this!

Now and again I find a card on the site that I didn't send in, but I totally could have.

Today I found two. This one on football, I tried I really tried, but I still don't get it. I mean, take this weekend's UCLA against BYU game. If, like the one I love tells me, UCLA is a bunch of [insert derogatory name here], how come at the end of the game, the number under UCLA was bigger than the number under BYU? I guess I never will understand this game!

And then there was this other one:

It would have been time for me to have my little boy now. I tried last night until pretty late, to say something about that. See to me, he feels like a secret. I feel like I am supposed to keep him a secret. But it's time for him to be here and I feel like he deserves at least an introduction.

I tried to write something for him last night. This was as far as I could go:

If I had had the strings of the universe to pull last March, I might have the direction the flutter of a butterfly’s wing sent the wind, and I might have bent time and erased the moments I thought maybe caused him to slip away.

If I had been successful, I would be greeting this fall with a new infant boy in my arms. Maybe the laptop I am using to write this would be collecting dust as I pace this room with a colicky scream in my ear.

I could not finish, because I did not know what to say that would say what I wanted to say. Instead, I sat up alone till after 3am and listened to the house be very quiet. I remember when my Little E was a baby, I would pace our living room at that hour with her until she fell asleep and I felt like there was nothing in the world but me and her and the silence. So today's 3am, I listened to the silence in my living room that might have been for me an Michael.

I don't really know what happened to my son. I know I was listening to his heart one day, talking to him the next and in a flash, two hours from the time I realized how much danger he was in, he was gone. And the most common explanation I was given was that there must have been something wrong with him. I don't know what ailments he might have been born with, but there was nothing wrong with my son. I would have taken him, however he was.

Who ever sent this in this post card, made me feel a little braver to say what I wanted to say. I don't care to be anonymous. He's not a secret.

This is Michael. He was not born last week. But he did live. He moved when I laughed, and wiggled when I held very still. His heart had been strong. I am sure his eyes were blue. His lips were beautiful. He looked like his big sister when she is in a deep sleep. If the prenatal books are right, then he heard me sing to him every day for 5 months. If the religious people are right, he still hears me sing to him.

I wish I knew when you were pregnant. We sat so far apart and there were forces keeping us from being together. But now that I see little Michael, I wish I could sit with you and get to know more about that little guy. I once read on a friend's headstone when he passed away at a very young age. It read, "The candle that burns half as long burns twice as bright." Michael is just one of your candles! Miss you beautiful!!!!

Little Michael is a cute little guy. I wish the powers that be did not keep you and me apart when you were going through that. I know it does not mean much, but there is a saying that fits. "The candle that burns half as long burns twice as bright." Michael is one of your many candles!

Miss you Cookie!!!!
